Gateway Neighborhood center is the heart of our programs. It is the place were we bring together people from all over the bay area with different backgrounds to make meaningful change in students lives. Sometimes it is loud, sometimes it is quiet, sometimes it is crazy, it often tastes delicious, and almost always builds new friends. The activities going on at Gateway are always changing and we seek to match the passion of our volunteers and staff with the needs of the community. Here is a taste (pun intended) of some of the activities you might find if you dropped in:
Cooking Classes
Think cooking is a basic skill needed to meet a fundamental need? Your right! Come see how we invite students in to learn some of these basic skills while partnering them with mature role models and guiding them in some important life lessons.
Robotics Mentoring

Imagine you come from a lower income family and have never been given the opportunity to explore your own mechanical or software engineering skills? How would you know if you were gifted in these core STEM skills? How would you go beyond what is provided at your public school? Here we give kids the opportunity to explore their gifts and passions around robotics with an experienced adult mentor to guide them and encourage them. Come see a students eye's light up as the see for the first time a physical object, built by their hands, come to life!
